Homelite Generator – Do I have to buy a Homelite Generator or choose another brand?

There is a Homelite Generator Line BUT! – One of the things that strikes me as strange when you go to the Homelite Generator website is that instead of seeing their entire range of generators, there are two models; the HG1800 and the HG350. The other models: CGE6300, CG6300, CG4800, LRIE5500, LRIE4400, LRI2500, LRE5500, HLE4400, HL4400, HL2500, CHY500 and the HG6000 are nowhere to be found? You would think that a company of this size would list all their generators on their website. BUT they simply do not exist. A quick search on the internet and other sources, and you will find almost a dozen Homelite units. BUT you will not find those generators on their website again.

Something else is strange about the Homelite Generator line; I know for sure that Home Depot used this line, BUT it is no longer listed on the Home Depot website. However, we found at least the 1800 Watt unit in some Home Depot stores. Further research found none of these units at any other major retailer. What does all this mean? This can mean a number of things. Maybe Homelite is phasing out their generator line. Maybe they are reorganizing their generator section. We can go on and on with the speculation. BUT, we will not, because we have no idea what that means.

Customer Service at Homelite Generator – We looked at the fact that some kind of change is affected with this generator. Until the word comes from the head office, as I said earlier, no one really knows what’s going on. That said, if you are looking for customer support after your purchase, you may be able to go through what we went through.

We had a client write a little negative review about their experience and decided to confirm if it was true. We called Homelite to get a replacement part for the 1800 watt unit they have at Home Depot. We were told that the part is essentially on a new order and will have to call back in a few months. That was at the end of November 2008. We have not yet called back. Why not? If you are buying a generator and need a replacement part, the last thing you want to hear is that you should call back in three months. How would you rate it in terms of customer service?

My Homelite Generator is loud, can you tell me why? The complaint that these generators are loud is common. BUT, you have to remember; basically they are cheap generators. This means that if you want a quiet, fuel efficient generator, you need to upgrade. There’s an old saying and you probably know, “You get what you pay for.” In this case, it’s so true! If you buy a quiet generator, it always costs more than the cheaper units.

In general, we do not know what happens to the Homelite Generator line. If you decide to buy one of these units due to the low price, you just need to consider all the information provided to you. Decide what features you NEED and what features you WANT. If the most important thing is to have a silent generator, then do your homework and make sure you go with one of the brands that have proven that it builds silent generators.
